A stream meandering through the fertile
valleys of Northwest Georgia was known to the Cherokees as Chickamauga.
Tragically prophetic, its English translation was the River of Death and
it was along the banks of this stream that two great armies clashed in
September of 1863.
General James Longstreet was a major
player in this battle and the Longstreet Society will gather in nearby
Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 7th and 8th to
study his part in what he later called “a tussle in the wilderness”. We
hope you will join us in Chattanooga and on the battlefield.

As an added bonus, our headquarters
hotel will be the Read House, one of the grand old hotels of the South.
The hotel was recently purchased by Sheraton which spent millions to
restore the property to its original elegance. We got a great room rate,
but the Society has to pay for reserved rooms not rented. Because of
this we set aside a limited number of rooms. When these are gone you
will still get our rate, but only if there are rooms still available,
so better reserve your room early.
